From 25 april onwards, trees can be submitted for the 'Belgian Tree of the Year 2022' via the website https://boomvanhetjaar.be/. This year, we are once again doing everything to find a suitable tree and draw attention to the Flemish/Brussels nature. In 2020, ‘de Vierstammige Overlever’ from Ypres was awarded the honourable title of 'Belgian Tree of the Year'. The submitter of this tree, the City of Ypres, also received a price of € 2500, a fine sum that was, among other things, used to bring the tree back to its optimal condition. In 2022, a five-member jury compiled by the Baillet Latour Fund will again select one candidate from each Flemish province, along with one from the Brussels-Capital Region. Voting for the laureates will then be possible from September onwardsThe winner of the Belgian contest will be able to represent Belgium at European level for the 'European Tree of the Year'.

ELO is pleased to announce the publication of the study “Implications of the European Green Deal for agri-food trade with developing countries” by prof. Alan Matthews. The paper examines how European measures taken to implement greater coherence between agriculture, trade and Green Deal policies might impact on developing countries. While looking also at other multilateral, bilateral or unilateral trade policy measures, this study focuses mainly on mirror clauses.
